Review the latest 2026 immigration procedures in Vietnam, including automated e-gates for eligible residents and current eVisa processing guidelines.

Introduction to 2026 Immigration Procedures

Vietnam continues to update its border control systems in 2026. With the implementation of the Pre-Arrival Information (PAI) system and the expansion of automated e-gates, the primary objective is to streamline passenger processing at major international airports, including Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), and Da Nang. These structural updates are designed to facilitate entry procedures for foreign nationals and long-term residents.

Automated E-Gates for Foreign Residents

Automated immigration gates (Autogates) are operational at designated international airports. Passengers entering via eVisas or visa exemptions must proceed through the standard manual immigration lanes. The Autogate system is strictly reserved for eligible foreign nationals who hold specific residence documentation:

  • Temporary Residence Card (TRC) holders
  • Permanent Residence Card (PRC) holders
  • APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) holders

First-time users must register their biometric data (fingerprints and facial recognition) at the airport's immigration registration counter prior to utilizing the Autogate system.

eVisa Processing and Fee Structure

The Vietnam eVisa is available to citizens of all nationalities as of 2026. The standard processing time is 3 to 5 working days. The system operates on a single online payment model, meaning that the airport stamping fee has been entirely abolished for eVisa holders.

Applicants must pay the official fee online via the National Web Portal on Immigration. The cost is $25 for a single-entry visa and $50 for a multiple-entry visa. The maximum permitted stay under an eVisa is 90 days.

Visa TypeProcessing TimeArrival Stamping Fee
eVisa (Single Entry)3-5 working days$0 (Abolished)
eVisa (Multiple Entry)3-5 working days$0 (Abolished)

Port of Entry and Passport Requirements

The eVisa is currently accepted at 83 designated entry ports across Vietnam. All arriving passengers must ensure their passport maintains at least six months of validity beyond the date of entry and contains a minimum of two blank pages for immigration stamps. Passengers may review official entry procedures or apply for an eVisa prior to departure.
