Vietnamese visa policy for American citizens

As of 2026, United States citizens are not eligible for visa-free entry to Vietnam and must obtain a visa prior to arrival. The Vietnam eVisa is the standard entry document, permitting stays of up to 90 days for tourism, business, or visiting relatives.

The official government processing fee is $25 for a single-entry visa and $50 for a multiple-entry visa. The eVisa is valid for entry at 83 designated international checkpoints, including airports, land borders, and seaports. Visa on Arrival services are largely suspended for tourism; therefore, securing an eVisa is mandatory.

Applications are processed entirely online, without requiring an embassy visit. The sole official government platform is the National Web Portal on Immigration.

To submit an application through our agency services, visit the Apply for a Vietnam eVisa portal.

Flight & Embassy Information

There is currently one direct, non-stop flight route between the United States and Vietnam, operated by Vietnam Airlines from San Francisco (SFO) to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN). This flight takes approximately 15 to 16.5 hours. Alternatively, travelers may use connecting flights through major transit hubs in East Asia (such as Tokyo, Seoul, or Taipei) or the Middle East.

For consular assistance, US citizens can contact the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi:

  • Consular Section (Visa and American Citizen Services): Rose Garden Building, 2nd Floor, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi, Vietnam
  • Mailing Address: 7 Lang Ha Street, Hanoi, Vietnam
  • Note: The Embassy strictly requires a scheduled appointment for routine services.

Prior to applying, review the entry requirements to ensure all documentation is in order. If expedited processing is required, consult the Express Service guidelines.
