Everything you need to know about entering Vietnam — visa types, eligibility, fees, and application process explained in one comprehensive guide.

Do You Need a Visa to Visit Vietnam?

Whether you need a visa to enter Vietnam depends on your nationality, the purpose of your visit, and how long you plan to stay. Vietnam offers three main entry pathways for international travelers: visa-free entry, the Electronic Visa (eVisa), and the traditional embassy visa.

As of 2026, citizens of 26 countries are granted visa-free access to Vietnam for periods ranging from 14 to 90 days. For other nationalities, or for longer stays, the Vietnam eVisa is the standard option.

Vietnam Visa-Free Countries (2026)

Vietnam currently grants visa-free entry to citizens of 26 countries. The duration of visa-free stays varies by nationality:

  • 90 days: Chile, Panama
  • 45 days: Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom
  • 30 days: Cambodia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand
  • 21 days: Philippines
  • 14 days: Brunei, Myanmar

Visa-free stays cannot be extended inside Vietnam. If you plan to stay longer than the visa-free period, you must apply for an eVisa before departure.

The Vietnam eVisa

The Vietnam Electronic Visa (eVisa) is an online visa issued through the National Web Portal on Immigration. It allows citizens of all countries and territories to enter Vietnam for tourism, business, or visiting relatives. It permits stays of up to 90 days with single or multiple entry options.

The eVisa application process is conducted entirely online. Upon approval, the visa is issued as a PDF document, which must be printed and presented at the immigration checkpoint.

The eVisa is accepted at all 83 designated entry points across Vietnam.

eVisa Requirements

To apply for a Vietnam eVisa, you will need the following:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months from your planned entry date
  • A digital scan of your passport data page (clear, in color)
  • A recent passport-style photo (4x6cm, white background, JPEG format)
  • A valid email address to receive your approved eVisa
  • A credit or debit card for online payment
  • Your planned entry and exit dates, and intended port of entry

How Much Does a Vietnam Visa Cost?

The official Vietnam eVisa fee is set by the government and applies equally to all nationalities:

eVisa TypeGovernment FeeValidityEntries
Single Entry$25 USD90 daysOne entry only
Multiple Entry$50 USD90 daysUnlimited entries

The government fee is non-refundable, even if your application is rejected. Double-check all information before submitting.

Processing Time

The standard processing time for a Vietnam eVisa is 3-5 working days from the date of submission. During peak travel seasons or Vietnamese public holidays, processing may take slightly longer.

We recommend submitting the application at least 1–2 weeks prior to the intended departure date. There is no official expedited processing option available through the government portal.

What to Do When You Arrive

Upon arrival in Vietnam, follow these steps for a smooth entry:

  • Have your printed eVisa and passport ready before approaching immigration
  • Join the 'Foreigners' immigration queue at your entry port
  • Present your passport, printed eVisa, and boarding pass to the officer
  • The officer will verify your details and stamp your passport with the entry date
  • Proceed to baggage claim and then customs (Green channel if nothing to declare)

To submit an application, visit the eVisa application portal.
