A step-by-step guide to the Vietnam eVisa application process, detailing document requirements, submission steps, and receipt of the approved visa.
Before You Start: What You'll Need
Before beginning your Vietnam eVisa application, ensure you have the following items prepared to facilitate the process:
- Passport: Valid for at least 6 months from your entry date, in good condition
- Passport scan: A clear, color scan or photo of your passport data page (the page with your photo and personal details)
- Portrait photo: A recent passport-style photo — 4x6cm, white background, face clearly visible, no glasses, JPEG format, under 2MB
- Travel details: Your planned entry date, exit date, and the specific port of entry (airport, land border, or seaport)
- Payment method: A Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or other major credit/debit card
- Email address: A working email where you can receive your approved eVisa PDF
Take your passport photo against a plain white wall using your smartphone. Make sure the lighting is even and your face takes up 70-80% of the frame.
Step 1: Start Your Application
Navigate to the National Web Portal on Immigration (evisa.gov.vn) or use an authorized service to apply for a Vietnam eVisa. Select your nationality, visa type (single or multiple entry, valid for up to 90 days), and planned travel dates. Review the visa requirements prior to application to ensure eligibility.
Ensure you are accessing a legitimate service. The official government portal is evisa.gov.vn. Unauthorized websites may charge supplementary fees or mismanage personal information.
Exercise caution regarding unauthorized visa websites. Verify the URL before providing personal details. The official government portal is evisa.gov.vn.
Step 2: Fill in Personal Details
Enter your personal information exactly as it appears in your passport. Common fields include:
• Full name (as shown in passport) • Date of birth • Nationality • Passport number • Passport issue and expiry dates • Gender • Current address • Email address
All information provided must precisely match the details on your passport. Typographical errors may result in application rejection or denial of entry at the border.
Step 3: Upload Your Documents
Upload the required documents in the correct format:
• Passport data page scan: Must be clear, in color, with all text readable. Accepted formats are JPEG or PNG. File size should be under 2MB.
• Portrait photo: 4x6cm, white background, taken within the last 6 months. Your face should be centered, looking straight at the camera, with a neutral expression. No hats, glasses, or head coverings (unless religious).
Blurry photos or low-quality passport scans are the #1 cause of eVisa rejections. Use good lighting and ensure all text on your passport page is clearly readable.
Step 4: Select Entry Details
Select your intended port of entry into Vietnam. The eVisa is valid at 83 designated entry points, encompassing international airports, land border crossings, and seaports.
Travelers must enter through the exact port specified on their approved eVisa document. Deviating from the stated port of entry may result in entry denial.
Step 5: Pay the Fee
Review your application carefully, then proceed to payment. The official fees are:
• Single-entry eVisa: $25 USD • Multiple-entry eVisa: $50 USD
Payment is processed securely by credit or debit card. You will receive a confirmation email with your application reference number immediately after payment. Keep this reference number safe — you'll need it to check your application status.
Step 6: Wait for Approval (3 Working Days)
Following submission, applications are processed by the Vietnam Immigration Department. Standard processing typically requires 3 to 5 working days.
During this time, you can check your application status online using your reference number and email address. You will receive an email notification when your eVisa is approved.
Step 7: Download and Print Your eVisa
Once approved, your eVisa will be sent to your email as a PDF attachment. Download it and print at least two copies.
Your printed eVisa is your entry document. Present it along with your passport at the immigration counter when you arrive in Vietnam. Some officers may also ask for proof of onward travel and accommodation details.
Print two copies of your eVisa — one for immigration at arrival and one as a backup. Also save a digital copy on your phone in case the printed version is lost.
