An approved Vietnam eVisa containing incorrect information is invalid for travel. Discover the official procedures for submitting a new application.

Amending an Approved Vietnam eVisa

Once a Vietnam eVisa has been approved and issued by the Vietnam Immigration Department, it cannot be amended, edited, or updated under any circumstances. If an error is identified on the approved document—such as a misspelled name, incorrect date of birth, wrong passport number, or incorrect passport validity dates—the eVisa is legally invalid for travel.

Applicants cannot contact the immigration department or utilize third-party services to alter an already approved visa. The only official resolution is to submit a new eVisa application containing the correct information.

Do not attempt to travel with an eVisa that contains incorrect information. Airlines are mandated to deny boarding, and immigration officers will refuse entry upon arrival in Vietnam.

Common Errors Resulting in Visa Invalidity

Any discrepancy between the approved eVisa and the applicant's passport renders the visa void. The most frequent errors include:

  • Incorrect Passport Number: Confusing the letter 'O' with the number '0', or omitting characters.
  • Name Discrepancies: The full name on the eVisa must exactly match the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) at the bottom of the passport data page.
  • Incorrect Date of Birth: Entering the date in an incorrect format. The official system requires the DD/MM/YYYY format.
  • Incorrect Passport Expiry Date: Passports must remain valid for a minimum of six months from the intended date of arrival in Vietnam.
  • Incorrect Nationality: Selecting the wrong country code from the drop-down menu.

Consequences of Traveling with Incorrect Information

Attempting to travel with an invalid eVisa will result in denied boarding or denied entry.

During check-in, airline personnel verify the eVisa details against the physical passport. If the information does not match exactly, international aviation security protocols require the airline to refuse boarding.

If a traveler arrives at a designated Vietnam entry port with mismatched details, immigration officers will detect the discrepancy during the passport scan. The traveler will be denied entry into Vietnam and will be responsible for arranging their own immediate return travel.

Required Action: Submitting a New Application

Because an approved eVisa cannot be altered, travelers must submit a new application. The standard, non-refundable processing fees apply to all new applications ($25 for a single-entry visa, or $50 for a multiple-entry visa valid for up to 90 days). The Vietnam government does not issue refunds for applications submitted with applicant errors.

When submitting the new application, carefully verify all fields against the passport data page.

When uploading the required passport data page image for the new application, ensure the entire page is visible, without glare, and that the two MRZ lines at the bottom are perfectly legible. The immigration system relies on this scan to verify your manually entered details.
