A comprehensive overview of the reasons for eVisa application rejections, procedures for correcting errors, and steps to successfully submit a new application.
Initial Steps Following a Rejection
A rejected eVisa application does not indicate a ban from entering Vietnam. In the majority of cases, rejections are the result of correctable administrative errors, such as incorrect passport details, non-compliant photograph quality, or invalid travel dates.
Common Causes for Rejection
The most frequent causes for an eVisa application rejection include:
- Passport information mismatch: Discrepancies between the entered name, passport number, or date of birth and the uploaded passport scan.
- Non-compliant passport scan: Images that are blurred, excessively dark, or fail to show the entire Machine Readable Zone (MRZ).
- Photograph non-compliance: Submissions with incorrect backgrounds, applicants wearing eyewear, or incorrect framing.
- Insufficient passport validity: Passports valid for less than 6 months from the intended date of entry.
- Invalid travel dates: Arrival dates outside the maximum 90-day validity period.
- Previous immigration violations: Records of past overstays or related violations in Vietnam (rare).
Procedures for Reapplication
Applicants should follow these steps to properly submit a new application:
- Review the notification: Carefully read the rejection notice provided by the immigration department to identify the specific error.
- Correct the error: Address the stated issue (e.g., retake the portrait photograph, scan the passport again, or verify all text fields).
- Submit a new application: Complete a new application form with the correct information.
- Process payment: Pay the official government processing fee again.
- Standard processing: Await the standard processing time of 3 to 5 working days.
Applicants are advised to have another individual review their application prior to submission to verify that all information exactly matches the provided travel documents.
Government Fee Refund Policy
The official government processing fee ($25 USD for a single-entry eVisa, $50 USD for a multiple-entry eVisa) is strictly non-refundable once an application is submitted. This policy applies regardless of the application's final outcome.
Reviewing all submitted information thoroughly prior to payment is highly recommended to avoid unnecessary reapplication fees.
When to Consult an Embassy
In certain circumstances, applicants may be required to process their visa through a Vietnamese embassy or consulate instead of the eVisa system:
- You possess a complex immigration history within Vietnam.
- You have experienced multiple consecutive eVisa rejections.
- You hold a diplomatic, official, or emergency travel document rather than a standard civilian passport.
(Note: As of the current policy, citizens of all countries and territories holding standard passports are eligible to apply for a Vietnam eVisa.)
