Overview of the 45-Day Visa Exemption
Under current immigration policies, the unilateral visa exemption period allows citizens of 13 specified countries to enter Vietnam for tourism, business, or transit purposes for up to 45 days without prior visa approval.
Eligible Nationalities
The 45-day visa waiver applies exclusively to passport holders from the following 13 countries:
- United Kingdom
- Germany
- France
- Italy
- Spain
- Japan
- South Korea
- Russia
- Denmark
- Norway
- Sweden
- Finland
- Belarus
Travelers holding passports from these nations may enter Vietnam for up to 45 days. Citizens of ASEAN member states may be subject to a 30-day exemption.
Travelers from countries not listed above must apply for an eVisa prior to arrival. The eVisa program is available to all nationalities.
Entry Requirements
To qualify for visa-free entry, travelers must meet the following criteria at the immigration checkpoint:
- A passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival.
- At least two blank passport pages for immigration stamps.
- Proof of onward travel or a return flight ticket within the 45-day period may be required by airlines or border officials.

Stays Exceeding 45 Days
For individuals intending to remain in Vietnam longer than the 45-day exemption period, the following procedures apply:
- Apply for an eVisa: Prior to arrival, travelers can apply for a 90-day eVisa, which permits single or multiple entries.
- Exit and Re-entry: Travelers may exit Vietnam to another country and re-enter. Upon re-entry, eligible citizens may receive a new 45-day exemption or enter using a valid 90-day eVisa.
