Phu Quoc Island operates under specific visa regulations. This guide outlines the arrival procedures at Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC), including the 30-day exemption and authorized transport options.

The 30-Day Phu Quoc Visa Exemption

Phu Quoc International Airport is the primary point of entry to Phu Quoc Island. The island operates under the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone Visa Exemption policy.

Travelers of all nationalities are eligible for a 30-day visa exemption for Phu Quoc, provided the following conditions are met:

  • The traveler's passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival.
  • The traveler possesses a confirmed return or onward flight ticket departing from Phu Quoc within 30 days.
  • The traveler does not enter mainland Vietnam during their stay.

To utilize the 30-day exemption, travelers must arrive directly in Phu Quoc from an international destination. If transiting through a mainland Vietnamese airport (such as Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi), you must remain entirely within the international transit area and not clear immigration. Clearing immigration on the mainland invalidates the Phu Quoc exemption.

Arrival Procedures at PQC

Phu Quoc Airport maintains standard international arrival protocols.

If utilizing the 30-Day Exemption: Proceed to the immigration counters. Present your passport and proof of onward travel within 30 days. The immigration officer will endorse the passport with a 30-day entry stamp restricted to Phu Quoc. There are no fees associated with this exemption.

If utilizing a Vietnam eVisa: Travelers planning to visit Phu Quoc and subsequently travel to mainland Vietnam must obtain a standard Vietnam eVisa prior to arrival. The eVisa is available to all nationalities, permits a stay of up to 90 days, and costs $25 USD for single entry or $50 USD for multiple entries. Applications must be submitted exclusively via the official National Web Portal on Immigration.

Upon arrival, present the printed eVisa and passport. Ensure 'Phu Quoc Airport' was selected from the list of 83 eligible entry ports during the application.

Baggage and Customs

After passport control, proceed to the baggage claim area.

Customs regulations require all arriving baggage to be screened via X-ray before exiting into the public arrivals area. Strict regulations apply to the importation of specific goods, including restrictions on drones without permits, fresh fruits, and certain meat products. Declarations are required for carrying cash exceeding $5,000 USD (or equivalent foreign currency). For complete regulations, refer to our Vietnam Visa Guide.

Transport from Phu Quoc Airport

PQC is located approximately 10 km south of Duong Dong, the main administrative center.

  • Hotel Shuttle: Several authorized accommodations provide airport transfers. Travelers should confirm arrangements prior to arrival.
  • Taxis: Official metered taxis (e.g., Vinasun, Mai Linh) operate outside the terminal. A standard fare to Duong Dong ranges from 150,000 to 200,000 VND ($6-$8 USD). Fares to destinations further north or south will be higher.
  • Ride-Hailing: Applications such as Grab operate on the island, providing fixed pricing for routes.
  • Airport Bus: A public bus service connects the airport to Duong Dong and An Thoi port.
