Travel Information for Hoi An in 2026

Hoi An Ancient Town is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site located in central Vietnam. The town is recognized for its historical architecture and regular cultural events, including the monthly Lantern Festival.

Arriving via Da Nang International Airport (DAD)

Hoi An does not have a local airport. Travelers generally arrive via Da Nang International Airport (DAD), situated approximately 30 kilometers away. The transit time between the airport and Hoi An is typically 45 minutes by road.

Da Nang International Airport is one of the 83 designated entry ports in Vietnam that accept the Vietnam eVisa. Upon completing immigration procedures at DAD, travelers can use taxis, pre-booked transfers, or public buses to reach Hoi An.

Pre-booking an airport transfer is a standard option. Standard rates typically range between 300,000 to 400,000 VND.

Local Events: The Lantern Festival

The Lantern Festival is held on the 14th day of every lunar month. During this evening, streetlights in the ancient town area are turned off, and the area is illuminated by traditional silk lanterns. Visitors intending to observe this event should align their visa application dates with the lunar calendar.

Climate and Seasons

Hoi An experiences two primary seasons:

  • Dry Season (February to August): Temperatures are generally warm, suitable for outdoor activities and travel to local areas such as An Bang Beach.
  • Rainy Season (September to January): This period brings increased rainfall, which may result in occasional flooding in low-lying riverside areas.

Essential eVisa Requirements

Travelers to central Vietnam must hold valid entry documents. The Vietnam eVisa is available to all nationalities (see visa requirements) and permits stays of up to 90 days.

Visa fees are strictly set at 25 USD for a single-entry visa and 50 USD for a multiple-entry visa. Applications should be submitted solely through the official National Web Portal on Immigration. Processing typically takes 3 to 5 working days.

Requirements include:

  • A passport with at least 6 months of validity remaining from the intended date of entry.
  • At least two blank pages in the passport.
