Plan your perfect trip to Hoi An in 2026. Learn about the famous Lantern Festival, best times to visit, and how to use your Vietnam eVisa at Da Nang International Airport (DAD).

Discovering Hoi An in 2026

Hoi An Ancient Town continues to captivate travelers in 2026 as one of Vietnam's most well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage sites. Famous for its yellow merchant houses, vibrant silk lanterns, and relaxed riverside atmosphere, it's a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to central Vietnam.

Arriving via Da Nang International Airport (DAD)

Hoi An does not have its own airport. The most convenient gateway is Da Nang International Airport (DAD), located about 30 kilometers (45 minutes) away. DAD is one of the 13 international airports in Vietnam that accept the Vietnam eVisa. Once you clear immigration at Da Nang using your eVisa, you can easily catch a taxi, pre-booked transfer, or local bus straight to your hotel in Hoi An.

Book a private airport transfer online before you arrive. It usually costs around 300,000 to 400,000 VND and saves you from negotiating with taxis after a long flight.

The Magical Lantern Festival

One of the biggest draws to Hoi An is its monthly Lantern Festival. Held on the 14th day of every lunar month (when the moon is full), the town turns off its streetlights and glows exclusively by the light of thousands of colorful silk lanterns. In 2026, be sure to check the lunar calendar to align your visa application dates with one of these magical evenings. You can release paper lanterns into the Hoai River for good luck.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Hoi An is during the dry season, which runs from February to August. The weather is pleasantly warm, making it perfect for exploring the old town on foot, cycling through the rice paddies, or relaxing at the nearby An Bang Beach. September to January is the rainy season, which can occasionally bring minor flooding to the riverside areas.

Essential eVisa Requirements

Before you pack your bags for central Vietnam, ensure your travel documents are in order. The Vietnam eVisa is available to all nationalities (see visa requirements) and allows you to stay up to 90 days with single or multiple entries. You must ensure your passport has at least 6 months of validity remaining from your date of entry and 2 blank pages. Since processing takes about 3-5 working days, it's recommended to apply at least a week before your flight to Da Nang.
