Phu Quoc Island has its own visa-free zone. Learn who qualifies, how long you can stay, and what to do if you want to explore the rest of Vietnam.
Yes, Phu Quoc Has Its Own Visa-Free Policy
Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam has a special economic zone status that includes its own visa-free entry policy, separate from mainland Vietnam's rules.
Under this policy, foreign visitors of ALL nationalities can stay on Phu Quoc Island for up to 30 days without a visa — provided they enter and stay only on Phu Quoc. This makes it one of the easiest tropical destinations in Southeast Asia to visit.
Rules for Phu Quoc Visa-Free Entry
To qualify for visa-free entry to Phu Quoc, you must meet these conditions:
- You must fly directly to Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) from an international origin
- Your stay must be 30 days or less
- You must remain on Phu Quoc Island only — you cannot travel to mainland Vietnam
- Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date
- You must have a confirmed return or onward flight from Phu Quoc
The Phu Quoc visa-free policy only covers the island itself. If you want to visit any other part of Vietnam (Hanoi, HCMC, Da Nang, etc.), you need a standard eVisa (valid for 90 days, costs $25 single/$50 multiple entry) or visa-free entry based on your nationality.
What If You Want to Visit Mainland Vietnam Too?
This is the most common question travelers ask. If you want to combine Phu Quoc with other destinations in Vietnam, you have two options:
1. Apply for a standard Vietnam eVisa before your trip (recommended). This covers both Phu Quoc and the mainland, allows stays up to 90 days, and costs $25 for single entry or $50 for multiple entries.
2. If your nationality qualifies for nationwide visa-free entry (e.g., UK, Germany, Japan for 45 days), you can travel freely between Phu Quoc and the mainland without any extra steps.
