Citizens of Bulgaria must obtain a visa before entering Vietnam. The Vietnam eVisa is available online and can be applied for entirely from home. Here's your complete guide.

Do Bulgarian Citizens Need a Visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Bulgarian citizens are NOT included in Vietnam's visa-free entry program. All Bulgarian passport holders must obtain a visa prior to traveling to Vietnam.

The good news is that since August 2023, Vietnam's eVisa has been open to all nationalities worldwide. Bulgarian citizens can apply 100% online, and approval generally takes just 3-5 working days.

Bulgarian citizens cannot enter Vietnam without a visa. Apply for your eVisa at least 1-2 weeks before departure at /apply.

Visa Options and Fees for Bulgarian Travelers

Bulgarian citizens have two primary choices when applying for the Vietnam eVisa. Since Bulgaria adopted the euro (EUR) as its official currency on January 1, 2026, we provide approximate costs in euros:

eVisa (Single Entry)$25 USD (~€21.55)3-5 working daysMost tourists
eVisa (Multiple Entry)$50 USD (~€43.10)3-5 working daysMulti-country SE Asia trips

There IS a Vietnamese Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria. However, the eVisa is faster and more convenient for most travelers. Visit /apply to get started.

Flights from Bulgaria to Vietnam

There are no direct flights from Bulgaria to Vietnam. Travelers from Sofia (SOF) will need connecting flights through major hubs.

  • **Turkish Airlines via Istanbul (IST):** The most popular route. Flight time approximately 14-16 hours including layover.
  • **Qatar Airways via Doha (DOH):** Another excellent option with comfortable layovers.
  • **Other options:** Lufthansa (via Frankfurt), Emirates (via Dubai), or Air France (via Paris).
  • **Arrival airports:** Tan Son Nhat (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City and Noi Bai (HAN) in Hanoi are the main entry points.

Make sure the entry port you select on your eVisa application exactly matches your final arrival airport in Vietnam. Check our full list of 33 accepted eVisa entry ports.

Vietnamese Embassy in Bulgaria

Unlike many smaller European nations, Bulgaria does have a Vietnamese Embassy in its capital:

**Embassy of Vietnam in Sofia** - **Address:** No. 1, Jetvarka St., Sofia 1113, Bulgaria - **Phone:** (+359) 2 963 3658 - **Email:** [email protected] - **Embassy hours:** Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM - **Consular hours:** Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM

While you can visit the embassy for visa services, the eVisa is generally faster and requires no in-person visit.

Even though there's an embassy in Sofia, the online eVisa is recommended for its convenience. Apply at /apply — no embassy visit required.

Important Tips for Bulgarian Travelers

Keep these tips in mind when planning your trip:

  • **Currency:** Bulgaria adopted the euro on January 1, 2026. Euros are not widely accepted in Vietnam — bring USD or use ATMs in Vietnam to withdraw Vietnamese Dong (VND).
  • **Apply Early:** Apply for your eVisa at least 2 weeks before departure to account for any potential processing delays.
  • **Max Stay:** Bulgarian citizens can stay up to 90 days on an eVisa. This cannot be extended from within the country.
  • **Travel Insurance:** Given the long flight and distance, comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended.
  • **Print your eVisa:** Always carry a printed copy of your eVisa approval letter alongside the digital version on your phone.
